One of the feelings that many Americans are having at the moment is that there is no way to counter the onslaught of President Trump and his administration against those who oppose him.
Unanimity seems to be the sign of the times. However, congressmen like Al Green and Bernie Sanders help us to remember that there is dissent and that there are more than one who disagree with the decisions made by the current president.
It was Sanders who responded harshly to Trump's speech last Wednesday. In his response, Sanders pointed out the lies the President told in his speech and the truths he kept quiet. These are.

The Lies Trump Told

1. "The 2020 Election Was Stolen". Trump falsely claimed he won by a landslide, despite overwhelming evidence proving otherwise. Sanders responded: "Remember that—a lie."
2. "January 6th Was a ‘Day of Love’". He attempted to rewrite history by portraying the violent insurrection as peaceful. Sanders countered: "A lie."
3. "Millions of Undocumented Immigrants Vote in U.S. Elections". A baseless claim with no supporting evidence. Sanders stated: "A lie."
4. "Climate Change Is a Hoax Created by China". Ignoring scientific consensus, Trump dismissed the urgent crisis of global warming. Sanders refuted: "A lie."
5. "Ukraine Started the War with Russia". A distortion of reality that shifts blame from Russia’s aggression. Sanders clarified: "A lie."
6. "Millions of Dead People Are Collecting Social Security". A fabricated lie designed to justify future cuts to Social Security. Sanders exposed: "That is an outrageous lie intended to lay the groundwork for cuts to Social Security."

The Truths Trump Kept Silent

On the other hand, Trump avoided referring to the issues that really concern his government and that are situations that must be resolved. In addition, there are collateral effects of his policies, such as the increase in tariffs, which should be attributed to Trump's policy.

1. The Economic Struggles of Working Americans. 60% of Americans live paycheck to paycheck, yet Trump ignored this reality. Sanders remarked: "Funny, I heard Trump speaking for 90 minutes tonight, and I didn’t hear one word from him about the economic reality facing 60% of our people."
2. The Healthcare Crisis. Millions of Americans cannot afford medical care, and the U.S. remains the only wealthy nation without universal healthcare. Sanders pointed out: "Not one word from you—not one word—about the healthcare crisis."
3. The Housing Crisis. Over 800,000 Americans are homeless, and rent prices are skyrocketing, but Trump failed to address this issue. Sanders noted: "Apparently, except you, because in your speech tonight, I didn’t hear you mention the housing crisis."
4. The Reality of Climate Change. The last decade has been the warmest on record, with extreme weather events worsening, yet Trump refused to acknowledge this crisis. Sanders stated: "And yet, not surprisingly, Trump had nothing to say about climate change except, I guess, 'Drill, baby, drill.'"
5. Tax Policies Favoring the Rich. His proposed policies would raise taxes on the bottom 95% while significantly benefiting the top 5%. Sanders explained: "If all of Trump's so-called 'America First' policies are enacted, the bottom 95% of Americans will see their taxes go up while the richest 5% will see their taxes go down—way down."
6. Massive Medicaid Cuts. His budget proposes cutting $880 billion from Medicaid, leaving up to 36 million Americans without healthcare. Sanders warned: "Oh, I guess Trump forgot to talk about that—$880 billion cut in Medicaid."

Trump’s speech was filled with deception, and his silence on these critical issues was just as revealing. While he focuses on falsehoods and distractions, real problems affecting millions of Americans remain unaddressed.
