Gaza 2025: The Ambassador’s Tears and the Silent Cry of the Children

In the solemn hall of the United Nations, Riyad Mansour, Ambassador of the Permanent Observer Mission of Palestine, broke down in tears not out of diplomacy or rhetoric, but out of sheer despair. His voice cracked as he described the horror in Gaza: over 1,300 children killed, around 4,000 injured, and dozens starving to death every week, trapped under a blockade that has turned the territory into a prison without bread, water, or hope.

Since March 2025, Israel has imposed a total blockade on Gaza, cutting off food, water, and medical supplies. Although limited humanitarian aid has recently been allowed to enter, the numbers remain alarming: 100% of the population faces food insecurity, and more than 244,000 people are in a state of catastrophic famine, according to the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC).

The World Food Programme (WFP) warned that its supplies have been depleted after weeks without access. In Deir al-Balah, hundreds of desperate civilians stormed a WFP warehouse looking for food. Two people were killed and several injured in the chaos. On the ground, the most heartbreaking scenes come from mothers and their children.

In overcrowded hospitals lacking even basic supplies, doctors are struggling to keep skeletal children alive. But many die of malnutrition and preventable illnesses. The images of their mothers embracing their lifeless bodies, stroking their hair, whispering apologies for having nothing to feed them, are unbearable. “How do you explain to a mother that her child didn’t die from a bomb, but from an empty stomach?” asked Mansour, his voice cracking at the UN podium.

The international community watches, but aid remains insufficient. The new food distribution system backed by Israel and the United States has been criticized for its inefficiency and for excluding key humanitarian agencies, including the UN and UNRWA.

“Hunger is being used as a weapon of war,” denounced Philippe Lazzarini, Commissioner-General of UNRWA. “Starvation is now a political and military tool.”

This is not just a geopolitical crisis; it is a moral catastrophe. Every child dying of hunger is a collective failure. History will judge not only the perpetrators, but also those who remained silent. The children of Gaza do not need speeches. They need food, medical care, and protection. Now.
