Temple University has announced Jose Aviles as their vice provost of student admissions, beginning his position on May 1, 2023.

In his new position, Aviles will report to the provost as he oversees admissions, student financial services, the registrar's office, and veteran student services.

Additionally, one of his main responsibilities will be to develop partnerships in the university in order to create an enrollment program for undergraduates in order to reach their short and long-term goals, as well as encouraging university recruitment and retention.

“We are thrilled to welcome Jose to the Temple community,” said Provost Gregory N. Mandel, in a statement.

“He brings the vision and leadership Temple needs as we face opportunities and challenges around enrollment. In addition to an incredible record of achievement, he is genuinely committed to Temple’s mission to provide an accessible and affordable education to all students. I am confident that Jose will be a transformative and inspirational leader,” he continued.

Born and raised in New Jersey, Aviles has worked at multiple schools in the Philadelphia area, including Rowan University, La Salle University, and Swarthmore College. As a first-generation college student, he is committed to opening doors for students as he helps them find success.

In all of the higher education positions he has held, Aviles has contributed to and implemented programs made to increase student's access and improve their retention rates.

He has over a decade of experience working in higher education, having served in eight different institutions, from community colleges to highly selective institutions.

Aviles will take on the role following the end of his service as Vice President For Enrollment Management and Student Success at Louisiana State University (LSU), having held the position since 2017.

Over his five years at LSU, Aviles has overseen numerous departments, including undergraduate admissions, financial aid, the registrar, and student success and retention.

Prior to his position at LSU, Aviles was the Vice Provost and Director of Admissions both at the University of Delaware from 2012 to 2015, and at Millersville University from 2008 to 2012.

“I am excited to return to my home region and join the Temple community,” said Aviles.

“This is an incredible opportunity to join a talented community of educators committed to attracting, retaining and graduating outstanding students from the city of Philadelphia, across the state of Pennsylvania, throughout the country and around the world. I feel a true alignment with Temple’s values and my life’s work,” he continued.

Aviles is a three-time graduate from Rowan University, earning his bachelor's degree in history, his master's degree in higher education, and his doctorate in educational leadership.
