On Sunday, the U.S. Department of Education secretary Miguel Cardona said that President Joe Biden will be making an announcement in the coming weeks regarding student loans.

The student loan payment pause is set to expire August 31, a deadline Cardona acknowledged by stating “we’ve been talking daily about this and I can tell you that the American people will hear within the next week or so from the president and the Department of Education on what we’re going to be doing around that.”

Cardona answered similarly about whether there will be a suspension of student debt programs on CBS News’ Face the Nation saying “American folks will hear it before the end of the month.”

However, he did not have any information to disclose Sunday to avoid getting ahead of the official announcement expected by the end of the month.

AL DÍA News will continue to cover this story with any updates.
