July 25th, 2023The virtual world has increased like no other in the past decade and the pandemic for sure accelerated the shift to online services. In education, it wouldn’t be different; and a hybrid education is expected for the next few years.
Based on a CHLOE7 Report, from research and consulting firm Eduventures and quality assurance organization Quality Matters, surveyed chief online officers predict that the undergraduate student experience will feature some online elements by 2025.
According to Higher Ed Dive, from the respondents, almost 45% answered they expect it to be primarily on-campus, with some online elements; and around 40% said it will be a mix of in-person and online. In the case of graduate education, almost one-third of the chief online officers predicted that it will be hybrid; while roughly the same share said it will be primarily online.
The report indicates higher education leaders are weighing the best ways to convey content when determining course modalities, rather than prioritizing convenience, said Richard Garrett, chief research officer for Eduventures and one of the report’s authors.
The study also showed how institutions have improved online operation services, running most of advising, tutoring and student recruitment in house — just like 95% of student financial aid and faculty recruitment.

Only 18% of chief online officers said they contract with an online program management company (OPM), such companies help colleges launch and run online programs by offering a variety of services.
The survey done online during the first two month of 2020 gathered its results from 244 complete responses and 67 partial responses.
