On Wednesday, Aug. 10, Maluma launched his own brand of mezcal in New York. Contraluz is one of several businesses he has been working on that reflect his evolving ambitions, but he assured that music remains his number one priority.

The Colombian artist summoned the media to a Manhattan skyscraper to announce himself as the co-owner of the new mezcal brand, whose name symbolizes "a dreamer who gets up every day to get his family ahead."

"I think it's nice for people to know about my musical career, but also to know more about me behind the scenes: who is the businessman, what are the projects besides my music," explained the Latin star, who revealed that in addition to mezcal, he has a clothing line, a horse farm and an audiovisual production company.

Maluma said he is grateful to his musical career for allowing him to get to where he is, but feels he has changed and grown with his dreams. Don't worry, he's not leaving music anytime soon.

The Colombian said he has grown up in the business world thanks to people around him, including his father, while also speaking about his growth in the music industry over the last 10 years. He's also been a "low-profile entrepreneur," and now has decided it is "time to tell the world about those projects" he had "under the table."

"My dreams are simply not ambition to get money, but to inspire generations," said the singer, who joins a long list of celebrities combining the worlds of entertainment and business, including his countryman and fellow reggaetonero J Balvin.

The singer said that actor Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson is one of his business mentors because of his own efforts: "He knows how to combine his acting with his business, and that's where we are right now, learning from the greats."

Maluma also hopes that his mezcal will become an inspiration for Latinos, reflecting their culture and their "power" in the world.
