On Friday, April 29, Netflix and Colombian production company Caracol Televisión unveiled a video recorded by Vicente Fernández, in which he announces the series that will narrate his life, whose premiere will be this year on a date yet to be defined.

Titled El Rey: Vicente Fernández (The King: Vicente Fernández), the Caracol Televisión production for the streaming platform will star Jaime Camil as the Mexican singer.

The series will feature emblematic locations in Mexico and the United States that were part of the idol's life, many of them original from the time, to deliver a unique production that recreates 'Chente' from the time he was a child living in Jalisco with needs and shortages, to when he became the international icon of ranchera music.

The story shows Vicente Fernandez as the friend, husband, father, actor, rancher, worker, film producer, television host, businessman, but above all, the man who managed to overcome his own destiny and leave a legacy for humanity.

El Rey is a production endorsed by the family, it was the singer himself who chose Jaime Camil to play him, but no details have been given about the actors who will bring him to life in the different stages of the story.

The rest of the cast of the series produced for Netflix will also include actors Sebastian Dante, Sebastian García, Kaled Acab, Marcela Guirado, Regina Pavón, Rubén Zamora, Camila Rojas, Sofía Garza, Mauricio Pimentel and Enoc Leaño.

Although Caracol and Netflix were the first to contact and start producing a biographical series about the performer of "Acá entre nos," Televisa went ahead with El Último Rey, a similar production, but which has caused controversy and a legal dispute with Cuquita Abarca.

The family of the late singer spoke out against the project, starring Pablo Montero. However, it finally premiered in Mexico through the channel Las Estrellas and a second season is currently being produced.
