A Latino Superstar

Music is an artistic expression that is characterized for using a unique ability to break any language barrier and can be enjoyed on multiple levels. That's especially true in today's world, a global village that is connected to the length and breadth of the planet thanks to the power of technology.

Music, no matter where it is made, can touch the fibers of millions of people regardless of their nationality, ethnicity or language.

Exalting diversity and celebrating multicultural inclusion is something music does very well. The United States is the perfect example to show how music does not need to speak a particular language to be enjoyed. This can be seen in the events taking advantage of Hispanic Heritage Month to celebrate the contributions of Latino artists and recognize them with the best of the U.S. entertainment industry.

Although some people point to these galas as being part of commercial strategies that seek to impact sales within the Latino community, the truth is that the talent, creativity and originality of Latin superstars are the best arguments to highlight them.

Beyond the undeniable influence of the industry, these celebrations are the perfect opportunity to immortalize the extraordinary Latino contributions to the musical arts.

The Latin talent awards

The Billboard Music Awards are awards given annually by Billboard, an American magazine dedicated to covering the music industry. Finalists for the awards are selected for their commercial performance in the United States based on data recorded by the Nielsen SoundScan system at the end of the year.

Thanks to the growing influence of the Hispanic community in North America, since 1994, Billboard has held the Billboard Latin Music Awards to honor the most successful Latino artists.

In addition to these awards given on the basis of the success for albums, singles and videos on the charts, the ceremony includes the “Spirit of Hope” award for humanitarian achievements and the “Trajectory” award.

For their part, the Grammy Awards are a distinction awarded by the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences of the United States since 2000 to recognize outstanding achievements in the music industry. The winners are determined by their degree of musical excellence, which is evaluated by the academy.

The Latin Grammy Awards, which has reggaeton performers upset because of their absence from the list of nominees, recognize the artistic and technical excellence of recorded music through peer voting, for musical productions sung in Spanish, Portuguese, or languages, dialects and idiomatic expressions that are recognized in Latin America.

This is the complete list of nominees for the next installment.

In addition to celebrating these awards for 22 years (including the next one to be held), the Grammys also work to support and promote Latin talent through the Latin Grammy Cultural Foundation.

Latin diversity: The trump card in music

Justifying a spectacular celebration to honor the best of the music industry in Spanish is not necessary. On the contrary, it should be done more frequently and beyond the month that celebrates the contributions of Hispanics in the United States.

Beyond appealing to a specific ethnic or cultural group, they are a tribute to different precepts the world needs to normalize and make them its own. Those precepts are diversity and inclusion.

¡Qué viva la música! (Long live music!) It is a novel by Colombian writer Andrés Caicedo who, from other latitudes, recognizes the incalculable value that music brings to the life of every human being. The soundtrack of each culture and era becomes a rich universe of sounds and verses in which we can venture to explore and recognize those themes and sensations that have been recorded in thousands of generations throughout history.

Awards such as the Grammys or the Billboards are examples of the events each Latin American nation would like to carry out in their territories, but which for one reason or another cannot be achieved. Celebrations of this magnitude, which become an international festival, for which only the "best" qualify, are the most desired stage by any Latin artist and one of the biggest dreams they are trying to achieve.
