The photographic exhibition, World Press Photo, brings together the winning works of the most important photography and digital narrative contest in photojournalism of the day. For 17 years, the CCCB (Center of Contemporary Culture of Barcelona) has hosted the exhibition, through the organization the Photographic Social Vision Foundation.

The exhibition includes all the award-winning photographs and multimedia pieces, most unpublished in Spain and offering different perspectives on global current affairs. Four Spanish photographers are participating in this edition: Luis Tato from Barcelona, Aitor Garmendia from the Basque Country, Jaime Culebras from Extremadura and Claudia Reig Valera from Valencia.

As in every year, the exhibition in Barcelona is accompanied by a program of parallel activities open to the public that delves into the themes of the winning projects and generates debate.

This year, the winning photograph of the World Press Photo 2021 belongs to Mads Nissen, who portrayed one of the first safe hugs during the pandemic. The winning photograph shows Rosa Luzia Lunardi being hugged by nurse Adriana Silva da Costa Souza at the Viva Bem nursing home in Sao Paulo, Brazil, on Aug. 5, 2020.

The World Press Photo for Photo Story of the Year goes to Antonio Faccilongo, who has dealt with love stories during the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The story shows the impact of the conflict on Palestinian families and the difficulties they face in preserving their reproductive rights and human dignity.

The renowned photographic exhibition will be on view from Nov. 10 to Dec. 12, 2021, and tickets have been on sale since last weekend.
