Former First Lady, Michelle Obama, is preparing to launch her first podcast tomorrow on July 29. This latest extension of Michelle and Barack Obama’s Higher Ground production company, The Michelle Obama Podcast will be accessible to premium and free Spotify users.

According to a press release from Spotify, the podcast will provide listeners with Obama’s “most candid and personal conversations, showing us what’s possible when we allow ourselves to be vulnerable, to open up and to focus on what matters most.”

In a trailer for the podcast, Obama describes her goal for the show’s first season, which will serve as a space to unpack topics about the “relationships that make us who we are.”

There will be a wide range of guests to discuss the issues that are affecting us all, whether it be “a global pandemic or a nationwide reckoning with race.” The former first lady’s hope is that it will be a place for people to sort through the questions we’re all trying to answer.

So far, the guests include Obama’s mother, brother, former Obama White House aide Valerie Jarret, The Office’s Craig Robinson, late-night host Conan O’Brien, Obama’s hairstylist Yene Damtew and more.

Michelle sat down with her first guest, her husband Barack, to talk about how their neighbors helped raise them, and how this helped them understand the importance of contributing to their wider communities.

In Obama’s eight years in the White House, she showed the country that she is a very accessible First Lady.

She opted to be authentic, open, fun and inspirational. She demonstrated that she was multifaceted. She could do push-ups on a talk show, make rap songs up about vegetables and also give powerful speeches about policy issues.

The Michelle Obama Podcast isn’t her first venture into public, deep-dive storytelling.

In 2018, she released a bestselling memoir, Becoming, and a Netflix documentary of the same name was released, sharing stories of the “amazing people she met” after releasing her book.

Obama is excited to be able to amplify the voices of those that are often ignored or silenced and share them with the world.

“Our hope is that through compelling, inspirational storytelling, Higher Ground Audio will not only produce engaging podcasts, but help people connect emotionally and open up their minds - and their hearts,” she said.
