In Cartagena de Indias, the exhibition "Imagining the fire of memory" is being held at the Spanish Cooperation Training Center (CFCE). This is an exhibition of illustrations, photographs and videos that presents stories, traditions and tales narrated by Afro-descendant communities from different countries in Latin America and the Caribbean.

This exhibition is the result of a series of workshops carried out by the Spanish Cooperation and the VIST Foundation in Colombia, Bolivia, Panama, Uruguay and Guatemala, which aimed to provide theoretical knowledge and technical means to the participating communities so that, through sound, visual and audiovisual pieces, they could narrate their territories from their own knowledge and experiences.

The workshops are part of the Knowledge for Development Project (PCD) "Self-representation, compilation of oral memory and cultural empowerment in a network for Afro-descendant peoples of Latin America and the Caribbean", funded by the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID), through the Spanish Cooperation Training Center in Cartagena de Indias, implemented by VIST.

The first phase of the project was developed in Colombia in the second and third quarter of 2021, where Afro-descendant communities of Bahía Solano (Chocó), Cali (Cauca) and San Basilio de Palenque (Bolívar) participated. Subsequently, during the fourth quarter of 2021 and first quarter of 2022, workshops were held in Livingston (Guatemala), Montevideo (Uruguay) with participants from Afro-descendant communities in the departments of Rivera and Artigas, Portobelo (Panama) and Coroico (Bolivia), with participants from Unduavi, in the Yungas region.

The exhibition will be open to locals and foreigners until Tuesday, June 28th, 2022, and can be visited from Monday to Sunday, from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. free of charge.
