Flights canceled to avoid Gaza rockets

On Tuesday morning, Delta Airlines announced that it canceled all flights to Israel after reports of a rocket hitting near Ben Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv.

The cautious step was likely influenced by the recent traumatic crash of Malaysia Airlines flight MH17, which was shot down over Ukraine, killing 298 people.

The cautious step was likely influenced by the recent traumatic crash of Malaysia Airlines flight MH17, which was shot down over Ukraine, killing 298 people.

Tuesday’s Delta flight from New York turned around over the Mediterranean sea and took the 290 people on board to Paris instead. U.S. Airways also canceled its flight from Philadelphia to Tel Aviv while United Airlines halted its flights out of Newark.

UPDATE: The Federal Aviation Administration banned all U.S. flights to Tel Aviv for 24 hours beginning at 12:15 PM EST on Tuesday, July 22.
