Some lawmakers were ready to start the five-week summer break when the unexpected happen. House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy took the floor ensuring “additional votes are possible” and that lawmakers should stay.

According to FoxNews.com, Republican leaders plan to meet this Friday, amid severe criticism for abandoning their own border bill.

It is still unclear whether there are enough votes to pass the measure, but many lawmakers said they would stay in Washington as long as necessary to put the bill on the floor.

The budget proposed by Republicans amounted to $659 million, most of it aimed at strengthening border security, and also included a modification of the human trafficking law passed in 2008 to speed deportations of Central American children.
