In reaction to several informal complaints about racism in Center City's Gayborhood including a viral video of iCandy's owner using a racial slur several time the Philadelphia Commission on Human Relations (PCHR) released a report, “Inform Monitor Enforce: Addressing Racism and Discrimination in Philadelphia’s LGBTQ Community, based on a public hearing that was held on October 25th, 2016.

The first of its kind and one that activists have said should have occurred 30 years ago, the report relies on data compiled from social activists groups who researched the bar practices years ago. This study, in conjunction with the claims fined on October 25th are the basis of the report as the commission completes ongoing research and investigations.

The report includes several claims of injustice in the Gayborhood, leading to a feeling of exclusivity and unfair practices including:  lack on inclusion in the Gayborhood for women, people of color and transgender persons, and questionable employment practices at social service agencies that serve and employ LGBT persons of color.

“I attended the hearings that PCHR held on October 25 last year, and I was able to hear about some particularly troubling experiences. Racism in the LGBT community is a real issue, we all need to do more to address it,” said Mayor Kenney.  “So I’d like to thank Rue and the Commissioners for creating this report and this formal record so that government can take action.”
