After the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau approved the sale of Palcohol (powdered alcohol) in the U.S. last month, several states banned it. Now Pennsylvania may soon join that list.

State Rep. Leslie Acosta has recently introduced new legislation (H.B. 847) that would prohibit the sale, use and possession of powdered alcohol in Pa.

"I am especially concerned that minors would find ways to easily obtain powdered alcohol if it were allowed in Pennsylvania," Acosta said. "We need to be aggressive in protecting our children and young adults from potentially harmful substances. As there are still so many unanswered questions about powdered alcohol, I am hopeful my legislation will see swift action in the state legislature."

If approved, the state will join the ranks of other states who have acted to ban the product such as Alaska, Louisiana, South Carolina and Vermont. Other states like Michigan, Minnesota, New Jersey, New York and Ohio have pending legislation.

The bill is currently waiting for further review by House Liquor Control Committee.
