As Donald Trump’s percentage of Latino supporters continue to dwindle, his financial support from Republican donors just took a hit from a prominent individual.

Mike Fernandez, a Cuban-American billionaire Republican donor in Florida, just pledged $2 million dollars to help register Latino voters to vote for Hillary Clinton this November.

U.S. demographics tend to show that Latinos are less likely to turn out to vote compared to whites or African-Americans.  In addition, there are millions of Latinos who are legal residents and eligible for citizenship but have not applied for naturalization.

Along with Latino voters’ distain for Donald Trump, this has created the perfect storm for Hillary Clinton in winning the “Latino vote” a top priority.

For Fernandez, donating is a way to express his opposition of the Republican nominee. “As a lifelong Republican, I cannot support a party I no longer recognize, said Fernandez.  He added how he does not understand why the GOP can’t distance itself from “a man who has taken such liberties with the facts.”

Latinos make up more that 15 percent of registered voters in Florida. Trump is trying to win over the predominately Cuban community with his desire to bring back the Cuban embargo.

Fernandez has been in opposition of Trump for the past few months according to his op-eds and ads in several newspapers. Trump has threatened suing him but has not done so.

Fernandez feels that it’s the same old politician talk that has not changed over the decades. “This man is taking you and America down the same path of disappointment that you have lived for 60 years.”  He says he will vote for Hillary Clinton this election.

There are other GOP Megadonors who are reducing their investment to Trump’s presidential campaign.  In particular, Sheldon Adelson, CEO of the Las Vegas Sands Corporation, at one time was going to give about $100 million on pro-Trump super-pacs. That has fallen now to only five million dollars.
