Gov. Tom Wolf and State Rep. Dwight Evans toured the Enterprise Center in West Philadelphia Tuesday afternoon, after which the PA governor publicly endorsed Evans' big for Congress.
Evans, serving his 18th term in the House, is currently running to unseat veteran Congressman Chaka Fattah.
Last year, Fattah was indicted on double-digit counts of corruption and racketeering. But aside from a drained campaign coffer, Fattah's reelection effort appears unfazed. He has racked up several endorsements of his own, ranging from national labor unions to the Black Ward Leaders Association.
Other Democratic challengers include former Lower Merion Township Commissioner Brian Gordon and 9th Ward Leader Dan Muroff. Three weeks ago, Mayor Jim Kenney threw his weight behind Evans' campaign. Last week, Rep. Brian Sims withdrew his name from the then-crowded race and gave his support to Evans.
Evans gave Wolf a key endorsement of his own during the governor's race in 2014.
“I’ve known Tom for 20 years, working on issues ranging from economic fairness to better schools," Evans said at the time. "He’s no ordinary candidate, building a business and giving back 20-30 percent of his profits to his employees. He’ll be the change we need in Harrisburg. Tom’s the real deal."
Mentioning Evans' well-known grocery store model, Wolf added Tuesday that "no one has gotten more done for Philadelphia in the legislature than Dwight Evans."
