Two organizations unveil a massive campaign to increase Latino voting. National Council of La Raza (NCLR) and Mi Familia Vota (MFV) on Thursday, Jan. 23 debuted "Mobilize to Vote 2014" to register more than 250,000 votes.

Less than half of Latinos voted for the 2012 presidential election. According to Mi Familia's website, Latinos have increased their electoral participation in the last decade, however, there are many eligible but inactive Latino voters. In order to bridge the gap, NCLR and MFV are operating a huge register-by-mail program targeting eligible Latino voters. They are focusing on areas with high Latino populations such as Arizona, Colorado, Nevada, New Mexico and Texas with plans to expand in Florida and California. Clarissa Martinez De Castro, director of immigration at the National Council of La Raza told Reuters, the campaign is aiming to raise $5 million donations this year from numerous donors. Already, $3 million have been collected, she said in a press conference.

The movement to increase Latino voting is six or seven months earlier than efforts in past elections according to Reuters. Allowing more time to organize before all election races begin. NCLR and MFV hope to increase political engagement for issues regarding Latinos. Earlier this month, President Obama's Dream Act was passed by the House of Representatives but the Senate did not allow the bill to have a floor vote. The Dream Act will permit children of undocumented immigrants to apply for college and financial aid. The Act gained over 9o percent approval rating from Latinos.
