More than a half a million people in the Philadelphia area are without power and transportation this morning due to freezing rain and fallen trees.

Power

 

PECO reported that more than 500,000 customers were without power in the Philadelphia area as of 9:30 a.m. Chester County has the most widespread outages with more than 164,000 customers lacking power. Montgomery County was next with 150,000 customers without power, 122,000 in Bucks County, 62,000 in Delaware County and 10,000 in Philadelphia.

Transportation

Several SEPTA Regional Rail lines have stopped service this morning. The West Trenton Line is suspended due to train derailment, the Paoli-Thorndale and Cynwyd lines are suspended because of Amtrak power issues, and the Warminster Line has stopped because of signal problems. SEPTA announced that passengers should expect delays of up to 40 minutes on the Regional Rail.

Amtrak has suspended service between Harrisburg and Philadelphia.

Several flights have been canceled or delayed at Philadelphia International Airport.

 

Schools

 

Philadelphia public schools are closed today, while Archdiocesan schools  have one-hour delay.
