Governor Tom Corbett, Comcast CEO Brian Roberts and renowned architect Norman Foster gathered on the 45th floor of the Comcast Center to point across the street and announce that they're building another one.

Comcast CEO Brian Roberts said that Comcast has "outgrown" their 7-year-old building. So the company is expanding to 1800 Arch Street in Center City.

With a price tag of $1.2 billion, the 1129 feet of 59 transparent stories will become Pennsylvania's tallest tower, and the tallest in the United States outside of New York and Chicago.

The company's plan is to fill the "Comcast Innovation and Technology Center" with the Four Seasons Hotel, NBC10 and Telemundo, Comcast engineers and software developers, and local tech startups. An Econsult Solutions study reported that the development will add 6,300 temporary jobs and about 4,000 permanent jobs in Philadelphia.

Norman Foster designed the tower to be open, transparent and platinum-level LEED. His other famous skyscrapers include 30 St Mary Axe in London and Hearst Tower in New York.

Governor Corbett said that the state would give $30 million over a period of five years in grants to assist with the building's infrastructure. The city committed another $10 million in capital dollars for the expansion of Suburban Station.

"I know there will be some who will say, 'why is the state investing in that?'," Governor Corbett told press. "I can see a return on our investment."

The city won't see tax revenue from the building for the next 10 years. Comcast CEO Brian Roberts told press that they planned on applying for Philadelphia's construction tax abatement.
