Private university presidents are paid pretty well for running a nonprofit. Over 40 are millionaires. 

On December 15, The Chronicle of Higher Education released a list detailing the total compensation for 550 private university presidents. Two Philadelphia-area presidents made over a million dollars in 2011. 

Drexel University president John Fry came in 41st place with $1 million and University of Pennsylvania's Amy Gutmann came in fifth with $2 million. The top earner from University of Chicago was compensated over $3.3 million.

In 2013, the average tuition cost to soared passed $30,000 a year as private tuitions rose 3.8 percent overall. Meanwhile, the average Federal Aid Pell Grant remains under $4,000.
