Legendary actress, singer and author Rita Moreno performed a live reading for second and third grade students at the Rosa Parks Elementary school in Berkeley, California last Friday, Jan 24.
The live reading followed the release of Screen Actor's Guild Foundation's newest Storyline Online video called "I Need A Monster" written by Amanda Knoll and read by Moreno. The well-known actress used distinctive and fanciful voices to tell the story about a boy who discovers the monster under his bed has gone fishing and now, he must find a substitute monster.
Jill Seltzer, executive director of the SAG Foundation said in a press release, "The SAG Foundation is grateful to Rita Moreno for creating such a memorable recording for our Storyline Online website. The fan mail from teachers and parents who have watched the video "I Need My Monster" is already streaming in."
At the 20th Annual SAG Awards, Moreno was presented with a Lifetime Achievement Award for her extended career and humanitarian work including volunteer contributions to the SAG Foundation's literacy programs for children. The Storyline Online aims to inspire children to read and streams 25 videos that feature celebrated actors reading award-winning children's books.
