The fastest growing population in the United States wants action on climate change and carbon pollution.

Latino Decisions, a political opinion research organization, conducted a survey for the National Resources Defense Council (NRDC) and discovered 8 in 10 Latinos want President Obama to use executive authority to cut carbon pollution. Latino Decisions interviewed 805 Latinos in the United States from Nov. 25 to Dec. 4, 2013. According to their website, 86 percent of Latinos want limits on the amount of air carbon pollution power plants can discharge.

"Of the issues we've polled, the only other national issue Latinos feel more intensely about is immigration reform" said Matt Barreto, co-founder of Latino Decisions.  Eighty-three percent of Latinos are convinced that climate change is causing their communities in Mexico, Central, and South America and the Caribbean to face more dangerous and extreme weather according to Latino Decisions.

Last year, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) under Obama's executive order issued a proposal to set limits on the amount of carbon pollution new power plants can emit. The EPA is still developing standards for existing power plants.

Noticeable climate change is happening all around us, according to NASA. The effects of climate change include rising global temperatures, shrinking ice glaciers, possible extinction of animals such as polar bears, increased wild fires and stronger storms.
