A Philadelphia tech firm, Connectify, has developed a free app that will allow smartphone users to combine their Wi-Fi, mobile data and Bluetooth connections to create a very strong amplified signal. The new app, Speedify, was launched by Connectify last week while at the Consumer Electronic Show (CES).

Connecctify will make money off Speedify by a subscription plan, according to an article appearing in the Philadelphia Business Journal. The app is also designed to default to Wi-Fi usage whenever possible, so users do not exhaust their data plans.

Speedify uses a virtual private network to establish a connection to the company's servers in the cloud. Through this connection, it can divide Internet traffic to figure out how to best construct the connection. It also mask the user's IP address, removing restrictions on geographic browsing and creating a more secure network.

Connectify had raised interest in its flagship product through a beta launch that attracted 100,000 interested users. Connectify was not able to roll out the beta to all user, but now Speedify is available to anyone in the App Store.
