Mayor Michael A. Nutter officially proclaimed April 2014 Philadelphia Jazz Appreciation Month during a press conference on April 3. During the kick-off celebration, Mayor Nutter honored Philadelphia-born jazz legend and saxophonist Benny Golson, and the Francois Zayas Trio performed.

Philadelphia Jazz Appreciation Month (Philly JAM) was organized by Philadelphia Jazz Project to highlight Philadelphia's role in the history of jazz and encourage people of all ages to participate and appreciate this style of music.

Various free and ticketed Philly JAM events are taking place around the City of Philadelphia throughout the month of April.
