In honor of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, Congreso’s Latina Domestic Violence Program held its annual candlelight vigil, on Oct. 23, to recognize those who have lost their lives to domestic violence.

The organization also unveiled a mosaic-tiled mural on the front of their building to celebrate survivors of domestic violence. Congreso partnered with Philadelphia Magic Gardens to produce the mural, which was created by survivors, advocates and members of the community.

“We serve neighborhoods with the highest rates of domestic violence incidences, and putting this mural front and center on our building makes sure that we’re thinking about and talking about it every day… that passersby know that we are here to help victims and families to survive,” said Cynthia Figueroa, President and CEO of Congreso. “We served more than 3,000 victims of domestic violence in the last year alone, and know that there are many others who’ve yet to build the strength to seek help.”
