Hundreds of innovators, entrepreneurs and developers in the making will be gathering in Philly for an action-packed weekend.

The second national Startup Weekend Latinx in Tech is taking place from Friday, Oct. 5 to Sunday, Oct. 7 in University City.

It’s a 54-hour long event designed to provide aspiring developers and entrepreneurs with useful information to help get their business ideas off the ground.

“We aim to inspire potential entrepreneurs in the Latinx community to breathe life into their ideas and learn how to bridge the gap from ideation to prototype with customer validation,” the event’s website reads. “Our main focus is on tech solutions, but we welcome all ideas that will help to create a future fueled by Latinx leadership and experiences.”

Beginning on Friday, participants will brainstorm potential business ideas and form teams based on the idea they want to work on. On Saturday, the teams will work on developing those ideas into concrete plans with help and feedback from mentors and experienced entrepreneurs. Finally, on Sunday, the participants will present their business ideas to a panel of judges who will then determine the winners.

“Everything you need to know about building a business, we’re going to teach them in this one weekend,” Delilah Dee, lead organizer for the event, told AL DÍA.

Participants will learn about some crucial entrepreneurial concepts, including how to get a business loan, using traditional and digital advertising, marketing and getting trademarks.

This is the first time this national event is being brought to Philadelphia, which was chosen as one of 10 host cities for U.S. Startup Weekends. It will be taking place at the same time in Detroit, Michigan, and Portland, Oregon, with Boston, Massachusetts hosting one the following week.

The event is a collaboration between Techstars and Google for Entrepreneurs, and is sponsored by the Kapor Center.

The goal of the project, Dee said, is to gather at least 1,000 Latinx aspiring entrepreneurs from across the country, but it’s important to note that the event is open to anyone who has any business idea or the willingness to learn about the necessary steps to launch a startup.

“It’s really going to be a great, educational weekend,” Dee said.

The Techstars Startup Weekend Latinx in Tech is happening at 30 N. 41st St., Suite 570, Philadelphia 19104. For more information and to purchase tickets, click here.
