Since its foundation more than 100 years ago, PECO has been committed to supporting and uplifting the diverse communities across the Greater Philadelphia region.

Known for its reputation as the largest, longest-established, and most reliable energy provider for the region, PECO has also created a strong legacy of giving back to its employees and customers alike.

PECO currently serves more than 1.6 million electric customers and 532,000 natural gas customers in the region while employing more than 2,900 workers.

As the region has become more heterogeneous, PECO’s commitment to addressing the needs of its diverse employees and customers has also increased.

Through several different community involvement efforts and initiatives, PECO has made tremendous contributions to all the communities it serves throughout the region.

This includes, but is not limited to, employee volunteering, charitable contributions, and partnerships with various community programs and organizations.

PECO invests in organizations within four main focus areas: education, the environment, arts and culture, and neighborhood development.

Each focus area represents key community needs in which PECO works with numerous organizations across the city to develop collaborative focuses on delivering sustainable improvements in the communities it serves.

The Latino community is one of the many PECO serves, invests in, and supports in various ways.

“Every year, we support more than a dozen Latino organizations, and we contribute hundreds of volunteer hours with the Hispanic community,” said Lourdes Hernandez, senior corporate relations specialist at PECO.

These organizations include Taller Puertorriqueño, Congreso de Latinos Unidos, Concilio, The Hispanic Bar Association of Pennsylvania, the Norris Square Neighborhood Project, the Greater Philadelphia Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, and the Asociación Puertorriqueños en Marcha.

Each of these organizations functions as a resource to support the Latino community, whether in the realm of starting or scaling their businesses, achieving economic stability, social and educational advancement, or building the next generation of Latino leaders and professionals.

PECO’s commitment to giving back to its customers has also been largely highlighted by its actions following the COVID-19 pandemic.

In March, PECO financially-assisted several thousand customers impacted by the pandemic by extending its support policies. This expansion included suspending service disconnections for non-payments, waiving new late fees, as well as reconnecting customers who had been disconnected before the pandemic.

In addition to this, PECO expanded its payment options and financial assistance programs to help customers pay down any outstanding balances that may have increased during the pandemic.

More information on PECO’s efforts to help its customers during the ongoing pandemic can be found in its press release

With its millions of customers having different sets of needs and concerns, PECO has made it a point of emphasis to address each of them. Those are just some examples of how the company has given back and made a significant impact on the lives of its customers throughout the region.
