Biography

Alex Holley is an anchor at Fox 29, having joined the Fox 29 News team during the summer of 2014 as the co-host of "Good Day Philadelphia." Holley is an award-winning journalist who arrived to Philadelphia from Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, where she served as a reporter and fill-in anchor for WMBF-TV morning news programs.

Prior to that, Holley worked as an anchor, reporter and producer at KOMU-TB in Columbia, Missouri.

Holley is a graduate of the University of Missouri, where she earned her degree in broadcast journalism and double minor in sociology and Spanish.

Here are Alex Holley's responses:

1. What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced in your professional career?

Covering 2020 events.  From COVID, quarantines, racial injustice, the Presidential election to vaccines and variants, this year has been unlike any other. Being one of the local leading news sources during a time when accurate information is crucial to deliver (whether people wanted to accept that information or not) has been, and continues to be, quite a task. I take this heavy-laden responsibility seriously; media coverage of these events highlights the need for journalists, locally and nationally.

2. What steps can be taken to improve diversity, equity and inclusion in your industry? Why is it important to do so?

First, increase representation, at all levels, throughout the industry. We know representation matters ON television, and I believe we are also seeing how much representation matters BEHIND the scenes. From management positions, to writers and producers, to camera operators, we need diverse voices and knowledge to ensure we are serving our continuously growing diverse communities in the best way. It’s a way to better connect with and inform viewers.

3. What does being a leader mean to you?

A leader is someone with a vision for the future, who has the strength and determination to see it through. Leaders also have the wisdom to know they can’t do it all alone, and so they motivate others in the process. Some moments in life call us to be leaders, while others call for us to follow.

4. Where do you see yourself in five years?

In five years, I see myself continuing to do whatever it takes to leave a positive mark in the community. I think we should all do what we can to use our gifts to contribute to improving the Philadelphia area, a home that we love dearly! I love this quote- “The only way you really see change, is by helping create it.”
