In celebration of Valentine’s Day, the Pennsylvania SPCA is working to find homes for its long-term resident dogs.

The organization will host an adoption event for six dogs (referred to as “The Lonely Hearts Club”) who have been in the care of the PSPCA for at least six months.

“Many of these dogs simply don't ‘show well,’ whether they're shy in the kennel, are jumpy or barky, or have given up hope and won't greet passersby,” says a press release from PSPCA. “However, we haven’t given up on them, and they are all adored by staff and volunteers who've had the opportunity to see them outside the shelter environment.”

The event will take place on Sunday, Feb. 18, from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the PSPCA Fishtown Center, 1546 Frankford Avenue, Philadelphia 19125.

All adoption fees for these dogs will be waived during the event and throughout the week (Feb. 18-24).

Drake, 4-year-old Greyhound/Mix

Drake is almost 4 years old, he is a greyhound/terrier mix, and a sweet guy looking for a home. When he came to us Drake had some health issues, including a fungal infection on his feet, that have taken some time to get straightened out. He did well in his behavior tests at the shelter and has been well behaved on his visits to adoption events. Although Drake is not considered strictly no dogs, he is uncomfortable around most dogs and becomes stiff. He would probably do best as an only dog. Drake is a bit unsure of sudden movement and can startle so he would also do best in a home with teens and up. If you have just the right home for Drake please stop in and ask to meet this sweet boy.”

Hayley, 3-year-old Boxer/Bulldog, American

My name is Hayley and I have got to be the cutest dog you'll ever meet! I'm practically a model and I've mastered all types of looks. When I'm being serious I look a little like a gargoyle, but when I'm happy I look like a baby sea lion. I've been practicing a whole new look for when I get adopted that I can't wait to show off. All I need now is for someone to adopt me!

When I first came to the shelter it was like a whole new world of people and things but I am making great strides and starting to learn just how great all of these new things are and I'm learning to trust more and more every day. Something I've learned is that squeaky toys are seriously the best thing ever and I'm the silliest girl when I have one! I'm hoping to find a forever family who can continue my training and show me all the great things in the world. I look forward to learning and growing with my fur-ever loving family! I am very athletic and love to play outside, and I am such a smart training buddy. This sheltering thing isn't really my "thing" and I'd love to get out of here. I am a very sweet girl and would love to meet you outside so you can get to know me better.

Boston, 3-year-old Terrier, Pit Bull/Mix

I'm Boston (but don't worry, my National League team is the Phillies!) I'm an adorable mix, maybe sweetened by a touch of chocolate lab. My friends at the shelter are raving about how smart I am and how fast I learn. I am learning all my basic commands like "sit", "stay", and "down", and am quickly learning about being polite around food - I just need a family who will help me to keep remembering my manners. Can you blame a Chocolate Lab mix for having a sweet tooth? I make a great best friend, my friends describe me a loving, loyal, and lots of fun to be around.

Colt, 2-year-old Terrier/Mix

Colt is a real charmer, with his sweet, gentle nature paired with a wide streak of a goofball! He loves having adventures on pack walks and is also a champion snuggler. He is quiet, and a bit shy at first, but once he gets to know you, you won't find a better friend. No one gives better hugs and kisses. Oh, and he asked us to tell you that he's a big fan of peanut butter. Ashton, 7-year-old Terrier, American Pit Bull Mix

Ashton here! I'm a friendly and curious guy. I love exploring and learning new stuff, and although I need a little time to get used to new people and new things, once I come out of my shell I am playful and as lovable as can be. My friends at the shelter are all talking about how smart I am - I know “sit”, and I'm working on "give paw". My people also say I'm house-trained, because I don't have accidents in my kennel. Although I've met some nice people here at the shelter who hang out with me and teach me new things, I really want to find my forever home where I can just relax and be my wonderful self.

I'm fine with going into my crate and riding in the car, and I just might be the perfect addition to your family. Why not come down to the shelter and ask to meet me?

Prince, adult Pit Bull/Mix

Prince came into the shelter in November of 2017 along with his sister Diva, both of whom were extremely emaciated. He is the sweetest young pup and has recovered wonderfully here. Likely due to his neglect, his teeth aren’t great and he will need some dental work. He’s best for a home ages 10 and up.
