Republican at-large race goes into extra innings
The five Dems are on lock, but the two Republican council seats are close calls.
The race for two City Council at-large seats reserved for the city's minority parties will go into extra innings.
Incumbent Councilman David Oh (R) and newcomer Al Taubenberger (R) are in the lead with 98 percent of the vote counted, but incumbent Dennis O'Brien (R) trails behind Taubenberger by around 400 votes.
Several precincts remain to be counted, as well as some 2000 absentee paper ballots.
From the election results website just before midnight on Thursday:
OH, DAVID | REPUBLICAN | 34220 | 3.82 % |
O BRIEN, DENNIS M | REPUBLICAN | 33614 | 3.76 % |
TRACY, TERRY | REPUBLICAN | 27582 | 3.08 % |
TINNEY, DANIEL | REPUBLICAN | 31331 | 3.50 % |
TAUBENBERGER, AL | REPUBLICAN | 34064 | 3.81 % |
On the other hand, the five open at-large Council Seats went to five Democrats. The city reelected incumbent Councilman William Greenlee and Councilwoman Blondell Reynolds Brown. In addition, school activist Helen Gym, real estate mogul Allan Domb and a former Council staffer Derek Green have all been elected.
This is a developing story.
