Gov. Wolf endorses Jim Kenney
PA Governor Tom Wolf officially gave his endorsement to Democratic mayoral nominee Jim Kenney on Thursday. It came to no surprise, as Kenney has already racked up the endorsements of key Democratic political figures on both city and state levels.
Wolf emphasized that both he and Kenney view education as "a moral issue."
"Jim's commitment to expanding early childhood education and increasing the number of community schools are important steps towards closing the opportunity gap. I look forward to working with Jim to ensure that every Pennsylvania child has access to a quality education, regardless of where they live," Wolf said in a statement.
Kenney followed up later with thanks, re-committing his promise to Philadelphia schools.
"There are a lot of things we can try to do here in Philadelphia to improve our schools -- and believe me, we will," Kenney wrote. "But at the end of the day, one of the biggest issues facing our schools has been a lack of funding from Harrisburg. For the first time in a while we’ve got a true ally on our side in Governor Tom Wolf. The Governor understands how important it is to expand early education for every child and create community schools across our city."
