Don’t have a cat, but want to play with one? It just got a little easier.

iPet Companion is a new website that lets people play with live cats through a computer.

How does it work you may ask?

Using live webcam and remote controlled pet toys, users can play with shelter animals that available for adoption by moving the toys via the internet.

Once on the site, visitors are placed in a queue. Once they are at the top of the queue, they are given two minutes to play with the cats. During that playtime, the user can move the camera and three different cat toys.

“The goal of iPet Companion's shelter project is to connect adoptable pets with potential adopters,” the company’s website said. “We play our part in this effort by using our technology to give a “face” to shelter pets: to support positive associations with humane societies and shelters, and to bring awareness and visibility to the many wonderful animals up for adoption.”

Currently, the live streaming is available in 13 shelters in the U.S., including the Pennsylvania SPCA in Philadelphia.

On May 1, iPet Companion will launch a home version of the streaming. The “HomePlay” version will allow pet owners to view and play with their own pets remotely when away from the home. Owners will be able to log on, view  and play with their pets via a personal, secure webpage.
