In preparation for the Copa América Centenario, the international soccer tournament taking place in the U.S. this summer, the original Copa América trophy has been touring the different cities where games will be played. On Monday and Tuesday, the copa found its way to Philadelphia where it was on display at Xfinity Live prior to the Flyers game Monday night. The continental cup will be on display Tuesday at Fado Irish Pub (1500 Locust St.) from 2 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Before heading over to Fado, the trophy stopped by the AL DÍA offices (Check the slideshow!).
The trophy itself is a large silver cup which sits on a wooden base. The base features plaques of each winner of the Copa since its beginnings in 1916. The tournament being held this year is a special edition of the championship which celebrates the 100 years of the Copa América. The tournament will be held in June at 10 cities around the country including Philadelphia (which will host three games).
