‘Another NYTimes Fail’
In his in-depth analysis for The New York Times Krauze states, among other things, that European-style racism has been the exception and not the rule in modern Latin America.
“Generally speaking, Latin America has received and sheltered many nationalities fleeing hunger or persecution — and Mexico has been at the forefront of this receptiveness and openness,” wrote Krauze.
Latino Rebels founder and journalist Julio Varela had one or two things to say in his rebuttal to the renown historian.
“I am guessing that neither Krauze nor his Times editor did some actual fact-checking because in just five minutes, I was able to locate several examples of racism in “Latin American stadiums,” Varela wrote.
Carefully dissecting point by point, Varela refuted Krauze’s argument.
“The literal whitewashing of Latin American history needs to be monitored and when it appears in mass media, we must all do our best to quickly call out this ignorant attitude,” concludes Varela.
