A Kickstarter campaign aims to help two fans make the definitive film on Bill Nye “The Science Guy” and his quest to change the world with science.

The new project will follow Nye as he promotes science in a number of ways including: “Debating climate change deniers, advocating for policies that protect space programs, and launching a satellite with a unique propulsion system that could revolutionize space travel,”  reported Inquisitr.com

“We’re documentary filmmakers, but we’re also hardcore Bill Nye fans who spent our middle school years learning about the ecosystem and the color spectrum from his trusty VHS tapes. Bill’s passion and enthusiasm stayed with us, and when we got older, we started making films about science and technology,” explained the creators of campaign.

Described as a film for and by Bill’s fans,  David Alvarado and Jason Sussberg teamed up to launched the $650,000 campaign to get their project off the ground. “We think the time for this story is now, and we are committed to making the best film we can as quickly as possible,” they stated.

Nye amassed a cult following in the 1990s as “The Science Guy,” hosting 100 episodes of his TV show from 1993 to 1998 for Disney/PBS. The show targeted children, but attracted a wide adult audience as well.

Currently Nye is the CEO of the Planetary Society, where “he’s leading a mission to launch a solar-powered satellite into the cosmos and advocating for the importance of science, technology and discovery,” Variety reported.
