Salsa singer Willie Colón was admitted to a hospital in Virginia, where he is in serious health condition due to the traffic accident he suffered last April 20, when he was traveling in a motor home with his wife on the roads of North Carolina. The news was announced this Sunday through an official statement on his Twitter account about the health of the salsa singer. The text assures that Colón is in serious but stable condition.

"The injuries included concussion, scalp lacerations that required 16 staples and fractures in the cervical vertebra C1. He is in serious but stable condition"; details the statement. It also informs that his wife, Julia Colón, was discharged after presenting minor contusions. The press release states that "no other vehicles were involved in the potentially serious accident".

After hearing the news about the accident, some public figures have expressed their concern and encouragement to the salsa singer. Singer Rubén Blades, posted a message of encouragement for the New York singer through his Twitter account.

Meanwhile, Latin radio broadcaster Frank Laude said, "I ask everyone to raise a prayer to God for the recovery of our Willie Colón and his wife. May God give them a speedy recovery from that terrible accident (you already saved them Jesus, now heal them for your glory). Especially Willie. Amen.

Colón grew up in the Latino neighborhood of the Bronx in Nueva York and is the grandson of Puerto Rican immigrants, something that has marked his personal and artistic trajectory. He is currently writing his memoirs and devotes his musical expertise to producing emerging salsa groups. Despite his life in the music industry, the artist did not leave aside his inclination for social activism.

Willie Colón ran in the New York State primary elections in 1993, then in 2001, he was the only Latino candidate to run for New York Public Advocate for the Democratic Party, winning 101,394 votes. In addition, he has been a regular contributor to organizations such as the United Nations and Amnesty International.

The Latino community and the salsa world are hoping for the singer's speedy recovery.
