Andreïa goes French in new release
The songwriter from Bogotá transforms her Latin roots into new forms to conquer diverse markets with "Bout de chemin."
The musical connection between France and Bogotá is a reality thanks to the work of Andreïa, the Colombian composer who recently released her single "Bout de chemin," which invites listeners to engage with the present, almost as if it were the soundtrack for the beautiful, everyday life most seek to preserve.
Andreïa caught the attention of Spanish audiences in Latin America and Europe, including her native Colombia, with the previous singles "Invierno" and "Son Rio," where she showed herself as a singer-songwriter from Bogotá who loves jazz and poetry.
Now, she is looking to make the leap to the French market with a song that, like her life, musically brings together both worlds. The song is translated as "A little piece of the road," and seeks to be a poetic call to the everyday of love without promises of which nothing is known. It is an ode to its valuable impermanence.
"It is the only French track on the album and brings together my two worlds at present. My roots are present in Latin American rhythms and timbres. In this case, it is a mix of Colombian waltz and pasillo with the color of the tiple, leather and wood percussion. Those roots lull my current everyday life represented with the fact that it is in French," she said.
"In this song, the jazz is more marked than in the other singles, because at the end there is a section of improvisation between the voice and the percussion that ends up being more of a dialogue. I make use of SCAT, which means improvising with the voice using syllables, very typical of the vocal jazz that was born in New Orleans and popularized by Louis Armstrong," she said in an interview for DX.
"I don't usually share my personal life in networks, but if I intend to be honest and consistent with my music, my texts and what I do, I had to pay tribute to the inspiration of this song with those landscapes and images of real moments that were the reason for that composition," she added about the music video that shows fragments of that transitory love.
"'Bout de chemin' is the moment to approach the French public, after having released in Spanish 'Invierno' and 'Son Rio.' One of my main objectives to come to France was to be able to sing and compose in French, it was one of my dreams; so it was important that this song was part of the album, as it was one of the first I wrote in this language," said Andreïa about all the welcomed new horizons.
