Summers are hotter than they used to be in Philadelphia and the number of days of higher temperatures is expected to continue rising in the next years.

According to the Climate and Urban Systems Partnership, the city normally experiences around 26 days over 90°F per year. In the 2020s the experts predict that it could be around 47 days of higher temperatures (over 90°F) in Philadelphia.

Philadelphia has not only become hotter it has also becoming wetter. The region has experienced one of the biggest increases in extreme rain in the country. Between 1958 and 2010 the Northeast has experienced 70 percent more heavy rain. And it’s all because of climate change.

If you have not noticed the huge impact that the increase of global warming is having on the planet, you must sense that something is wrong when after a few minutes on the street you are, all sweaty. And sweating is just a minor effect.

To raise awareness about the impact of climate change in Philly, the Climate and Urban Systems Partnership is encouraging Philadelphians to share ‘sweaty selfies’ along with the hashtag #MySweatuation. The best two photos will be awarded bikes.

Philadelphians just have to take a picture and post it on Instagram, Twitter or Vine with the hashtag before September 11. There are also other special prizes every week.
