Salma Hayek and 'The Hitman's Wife's Bodyguard' lead the box office
The latest comedy starring Salma Hayek and Antonio Banderas, The Hitman's Wife's Bodyguard, leads the box office.
In its opening weekend, the action comedy The Hitman's Wife's Bodyguard, starring Salma Hayek and Antonio Banderas, has climbed the charts and has positioned itself as the number one choice for U.S. moviegoers. The film has grossed around US$11.6 million in the North American market.
After her appearance in The Hitman's Bodyguard (2017), Hayek's character now has much more prominence in the sequel. Hayek brings to life the wife of Darius Kincaid, played by Samuel L. Jackson, the hitman that bodyguard Michael Bryce, played by Ryan Reynolds, was supposed to protect in the first film.
Ten days before the premiere, the Mexican actress and producer launched through her instagram the #hitmanschallenge as a way to promote the film. In the video, along with her team, they danced to Britney Spears' 90s classic, "Baby one more time."
In fifth place was Cruella, the film about the life of the flamboyant Disney villain starring Emma Stone. It can also be seen on Disney+ for an extra charge, the film continues to bring audiences to theaters a month after its release.
In the past week, The Hitman's Wife's Bodyguard opened alongside A Quiet Place Part II, Peter Rabbit 2: The Fugitive, The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It, The Devil Made Me Do It, and In the Heights, the Lin-Manuel Miranda-written musical that dropped from second to sixth in its second weekend. The comedy displaced all of the films in its first week.
