Renowned actors George Clooney, Eva Longoria, Kerry Washington, Mindy Kaling and Don Cheadle will open a film-focused high school in Los Angeles.

The school will be part of the city's public school network, and students will be able to "develop their future careers in filmmaking." It is expected to be located in the Edward R. Roybal Learning Center, an area with a strong Latino community. The intent is for the school to aid diversity and provide opportunities for younger students.

"Our goal is to better reflect the diversity of the country. That means starting early. It means creating high school programs that teach young people about cameras, editing, visual effects, sound and all the career opportunities this industry offers."

Its educational program is scheduleld to begin in Fall 2022 for the first two years of high school, and classes will be taught by industry professionals.

Austin Beutner, superintendent of the Los Angeles school network, spoke about the importance of high school education to develop in the film industry:

"Physics is necessary in a cinematographer's choice of a lens, mathematics is part of the basis of a musical score, critical thinking skills are needed to design a set..." he said

The educational program the project follows will focus on creating a secondary program that teaches young people about the career options and opportunities provided by the film industry. It will introduce young people to the use of cameras, editing and visual effects tools, and sound editing for film.

Of the 650,000 students attending schools within Los Angeles, 80% are Latino and African-American. Unfortunately, these proportions are not reflected in higher education, or Hollywood's employment records. The intention of the project is to equalize these figures in the workplace.
