The fact that 2015, in cinematographic matters, is largely dominated by Ibero-American talent is confirmed by the success of Mexican Director Alejandro González Iñárritu during the last Oscar Awards. Nonetheless, and though many may still be unaware of this, the Ibero-American contribution to the world of cinematography is not only limited to the famous names in Hollywood; it also extends through a large network of countries (from Mexico to Spain and Portugal, passing, of course, through Central and South America), where the quality and variety of titles have made them worthy of their own awards: the “Platino Awards”.

Organized by the Management Entity for the Rights of Audiovisual Producers –EGEDA for its initials in Spanish) and the Ibero-American Federation of Film and Audiovisual Producers –FIPCA for its initials in Spanish--, the second edition of the Platino Awards will take place next July 18 in Marbella, Málaga (Spain). The ceremony that in 2014 was rebroadcast by 17 Ibero-American, and US, television networks, will be hosted by Mexican actress, singer and song-writer Alessandra Rosaldo and Colombian journalist Juan Carlos Arciniegas (CNN Showbiz).

Some 126 films (among the 760 submited) are still on the list of those that have been pre-selected for the 2015 Platino Awards –among them, national and international hits such as ‘8 apellidos vacos’ (Spain), with 9.5 million movie-goers; ‘Relatos Salvajes’ (Argentina), with 3.6 mkllion; or ‘Libertador’ (Venezuela), with 700,000--- The best titles created in Spanish-speaking countries of the American continent, such as Brazil, Portugal, Andorra and Spain, will compete in a total of 12 categories (eight pre-existing and for new categories included in its second edition). Two special awards will also be granted: the Honorary Ibero-American Film Platino Award and the best First Feature Ibero-Amercian Fiction Platino Award.
