A project created to spearhead and support Latino business owners, emprendedor.soy and emprendedora.soy has big plans for Latino entrepreneurship.

“It aims to show the diversity of talent in many industries and to establish an online presence for all kinds of Latino businesses,” said Reina Valenzuela, creator of the project.

The vision of emprededor.soy also aims to connect entrepreneurs within the United States and Latin America. “We already have people from countries like Spain, Costa Rica and Guatemala, that have share their profiles with us,” Valenzuela said. “Each one of them can offer their expertise as entrepreneurs and learn from others in the process.”

Valenzuela knows a thing or two about businesses. As CEO of her company Starfish Global, in Fair Lawn, N.J., has grown from serving emerging businesses in the New York tri-state area to launching US-LATAM, a new management consulting firm catering to the needs of businesses in Latin America.

One of the registered members of Emprendor.soy is Peruvian blogger Silke McDowell, a Philadelphia resident who started her first online business “Growing Bilingual” seven years ago, and then started her personal blog “Mamá Latina” to share her experience raising kids between two different cultures and two different languages.

Valenzuela’s main goal is that Latino stereotypes are broken via this virtual business community. “Latinos are in all kinds of businesses. We realized that the lack of presence on the internet is not the only problem, but also the need of a platform to collaborate,” Valenzuela said.

The site was launched Oct. 16 and acquired Google’s new domain .SOY , meant to appeal specifically to Latinos. “At the beginning we had the idea of a virtual Latino business community but no name. Google suggested we use this new domain and we thought that it was ideal,” she said.

Emprendedor.soy publishes information in both English and Spanish and features a blog produced by its registered members. “Members will share their knowledge and skills to support the business community. We can learn together as we grow together,” Valenzuela said.
