Ortiz es la primera mujer y la primera hispana en dirigir la Fiscalía de Massachusetts. El senador Ted Kennedy (fallecido en agosto de 2009) y el senador John Kerry (ahora Secretario de Estado) recomendaron a Ortiz. El presidente Barack Obama la nominó. Después, el Senado de los Estados Unidos la confirmó por unanimidad. Kennedy y Kerry la describieron como [la candidata] “sobresaliente”.

She is the first woman and first Latina to head the Massachusetts U.S. Attorney’s Office. The late Senator Ted Kennedy and former Senator John Kerry (now Secretary of State) recommended Ortiz. President Barack Obama nominated her. The United States Senate then confirmed her by unanimous consent.

Philadelphia’s Reverend Luis Cortes, president of Esperanza, will lead a delegation of Latino pastors who will travel to Washington D.C., Guatemala and Honduras at the request of the U.S. government.

The delegation will explore how U.S. Latino faith organizations can partner with faith leaders in Guatemala and Honduras and support their ministries during the current child immigration crisis.
