Traditionally, it is held on a Sunday during the month of September. This year, however, the Rock ‘n’ Roll Philadelphia Half Marathon will be pushed back a month, specifically until October 31.

Pope Francis’ visit to the city, to participate in the World Meeting of Families, to be held from September 22 -27, and the resulting number of visitors this event will produce, has forced the organization to move the date of the race to the month of October. Another novelty in this year’s race is the suppression of the 5K event.

USA alive and kicking on world stage

 07/16/2014 - 17:50
USA soccer fans grimace after a missed attempt to score a goal during the last couple minutes of the game between the U.S. and Germany on June 26, 2014.

The 2014 FIFA World Cup has ended and in many ways, the questions surrounding United States soccer are the same as when the tournament began.

A lot of people, both those who are long-time familiar with the USA program and those who were just on board for the quadrennial party, have questioned what exactly did the United State team do in Brazil that it did not do four years ago in South Africa?

EE.UU. vivito y coleando

Looking Forward to 2018: Expect More of the Unexpected

During their unbelievable 0-0 draw against the host nation, Mexian goalkeeper Memo Ochoa save six shots at nearly point blank range / EFE

As I try to sit here and contemplate a common theme or fabric for how I would summarize the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil, I am having a hard time focusing as it is the day after Germany scored a “touchdown” against the host nation in their 7-1 semifinal shellacking of Brazil. Just to put things into perspective, until yesterday, Brazil had not lost on home soil during their previous 63 matches, dating back to a 1975 Cope America tourney loss against Peru.

La tanda de penaltis bajo escrutiño

 07/03/2014 - 17:34

Decision by penalty: The worst or the best of soccer?

 07/03/2014 - 17:24

Chile’s Gonzalo Jara took the slow, long 45-yard walk from the midfield line on the pitch to the penalty area all alone on Saturday. Thousands of Brazilians were screaming for him to fail. The hopes of his team, and his country, rested on his right foot. When his shot on Julio Cesar tailed just a few inches more than he would have liked and bounced off the right post, the stadium erupted with joy, and Chile’s World Cup dreams were broken.

Ronaldo taketh away and Ronaldo giveth

Ronaldo taketh away and Ronaldo giveth

There is no middle ground for soccer fans when it comes to enigmatic, larger than life Portuguese soccer star Cristiano Ronaldo. Fans of the sport either love him or hate him. He has been the face of the enemy to fans of Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi while, following five years of ascension with his club team Real Madrid, he has been the face of a group that has delivered a Champion’s League, Kings Cup, League and Golden Ball award to a storied club that had endured an uncommonly long stretch of mediocre success by their own lofty standards.
