Tampa was once dubbed "Cigar City", but its last cigar factory is about to disappear, like Fidel Castro, the most iconic cigar smoker, did last week.

Among those most worried about the future of the city is Eric Newman, whose family has been making 31 brands of cigars, including Cuesta-Rey, Diamond Crown and La Unica, for three generations, reports The Washington Post.
For 121 years, the J.C. Newman Cigar Co. has produced millions of cigars and shipped them worldwide, while the rest of 149 surrounding factories shuttered their doors or outsourced overseas.

While president-elect, Donald Trump, wants to cancel an order to build a new model of the Air Force One, arguing that it would cost more than $4,000 milion, a small Latin-American country like Uruguay is debating if it really needs a presidential plane:

For the last two years, Uruguay’s President Tabaré Vázquez has been trying to acquire a presidential plane to travel abroad, but the Audit Court has recently rejected the purchase process because only one company submitted a bid.

President-elect Donald J. Trump once called Climate Change "a Chinese Hoax". He has promised to boost the national mining industry and help coal to come back again, despite pollution and environmental hazards it may cause. And he has threatened to dismantle President Obama's effort to counter climate change.

So, it felt normal yesterday when he announced that he has selected Scott Pruitt, the Oklahoma attorney general and a close ally of the fossil fuel industry, to run the Environmental Protection Agency, or the E.P.A.

If you are following the news about the Dakota Pipeline and youd’d like to catch up on what’s happening in Standing Rock, you need to read more about the historical underpinnings of the conflict and go back to the Founding Fathers, which sounds boring, but it’s not.

Dog fighting is deeply rooted in the Mexican culture, but it could soon be banned. Last week, the Mexican Senate green-lighted draft legal reforms which would, if passed, see organization of events banned at the federal level. Animal rights activists have been fighting against dog fight for many years, arguing that the dogs are brutally treated.

The demonstrations by native Americans against the Dakota Access Pipeline will surely be remembered as a landmark in relations between Christianity – especially the Catholic church– and indigenous people. The Christian clergy have been attending the voice of protests of over 200 indigenous groups since the polemic Pipeline project begun. Catholic church is very engaged in this cause, given that Pope Francis called for a rapid switch away from fossil fuels in his environmental encyclical.

Dreaming of an apartment in Florida near the beach for your retirement? Think it twice if you are considering to invest in real estate in the seaside. Constructions near the waterline are likely to suffer the effects of climate change and rising sea levels in the near future, especially in the Eastern coast of the US, vulnerable to floodings and hurricanes.

The Dakota Access Pipeline is almost completed, but protesters have not surrendered. Hundreds clashed with police this weekend to protest against the pipeline for its environmental impact and its invasion of ‘sacred’ territory of the Sioux in the banks of the Missouri River. Police is said to have deployed pepper spray, teargas, rubber bullets, Tasers, sound weapons, and other “less-than-lethal” weapons. The construction company, Energy Transfer Partners, still lacks a final permit to drill under the river.

If there’s one thing that critics and fans alike can agree with, it is that Carlos Mencia’s comedy does not shy away from the political, and this politic is often neither “correct” nor sugarcoated, oftentimes leaving anybody in his audience vulnerable to being the pun of a joke. In an age of maintaining the peace by “keeping things PC” (essentially a movement towards attributing a purposeful attentiveness to a plethora of individual sensitivities via language), Carlos Mencia has not been tempted or convinced quite yet to euphemize his verbal shenanigans.
