In the context of expansion of organized crime in Mexico, migrants have become easy targets, as they are more visible, easily identifiable as migrants and, in many cases, they walk on a predetermined route. At least 400 immigrants were killed on their way from Central America to the US in 2015.

The Commissioner for Justice, Consumers and Gender Equality, Vera Jourová, offered a press conference in Brussels (Belgium). 59% of a total of 2,575 "hate messages" identified on Facebook, Twitter, Google and Microsoft have been withdrawn in the last year, under a code of conduct signed between these companies and the European Commission (EC) to combat Racism and xenophobia in the network, Jourová announced.
