The same week that America’s federal government plunged deeper into a governance crisis from misconduct by President Trump and members of his professed Law-&-Order administration, many Philadelphians took a big step towards restoring the vitality of democracy with their participation in the primary election.

You don’t need to be a political scientist to figure out a few simple truths: In raw numbers, more and more Hispanics will cast ballots in upcoming elections -- as has been the case for the past 36 years.

At the outset of their new book, “Shattered: Inside Hillary Clinton’s Doomed Campaign,” Jonathan Allen and Amie Parnes note that adviser David Plouffe prioritized three goals for Clinton to win: “It was important to have the right culture and mission, to manage Bill Clinton, and to effectively target Latino voters.”

We know how well that turned out.

[OP-ED]: Philadelphia DA Seth Williams: Cold to Injustice/Hot for Corruption?

At the very time Williams campaigned in 2009 on changing DA Office culture – like refusal to correct injustices – he engaged in the same conduct he condemned by rejecting pleas to help those cousins.

The 50-page federal indictment released recently that charged Philadelphia District Attorney Seth Williams with 23 counts of corrupt misconduct did not reference an egregious injustice committed by Williams that revolved around defiant refusal to acknowledge grievous errors.

”Mexico braces for a trade war with Washington,” headline in the Financial Times, Jan. 31, 2017.

Let’s hope not, because a trade war triggered by President Trump would be an act of pure economic aggression, unjustified either by the United States’ economic and political interests or by Mexico’s behavior. It would be the economic equivalent of Russia’s seizure of the Crimea, a raw exercise in bullying.
