The US Department of Justice announced Wednesday the appointment of former FBI chief Robert Mueller as special counsel to oversee the investigation of alleged Russian efforts to affect the 2016 election in favor of now-President Donald Trump.

Big Texas cities to sue state over recent law prohibiting sanctuary cities

The new law ratified by Gov. Greg Abbott allows law enforcement officers to ask legally detained or arrested people for their the immigration status and punishes officials who refuse to cooperate with federal immigration agencies, including ICE.

President Donald Trump on Thursday signed an executive order creating an advisory commission on the "integrity" of the US electoral system, which will investigate - among other things - his as yet unsupported claims about massive voter fraud in the November presidential election.
