Also, stay tuned for our exclusive interview with Secretary Rivera, available in honor boxes and on aldianews.com on August 20th.
AL DÍA News Media is pleased to welcome Pedro A. Rivera, Secretary of Education for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, to Philadelphia for a dialogue on the State of Public Education in the Commonwealth.
Educators, teachers, administrators, and thought leaders are invited to take part in this exclusive opportunity to hear from Secretary Rivera and to ask him questions directly.
Originally from the Hunting Park section of North Philadelphia, Secretary Rivera was nominated in January 2015 by Governor Tom Wolf to serve as the Pennsylvania Secretary of Education.
He has spent his career pursuing initiatives to increase graduation rates, improve proficiency test scores, and implement new curricula and professional development programs.
Secretary Rivera has extensive experience serving in public education as the Superintendent of The School District of Lancaster, a classroom teacher, Philadelphia Federation of Teachers staff member, assistant principal, principal, and executive director for the School District of Philadelphia.
In September 2014, Rivera was honored by the White House as a Champion of Change for his efforts to transform urban education – one of ten recipients nationwide to receive the prestigious honor.
Registration for this event is required, and spaces are limited. Check-in starts at 5:30pm, and our program will begin promptly at 6pm, followed by a reception and networking. Light hors d’oeuvres will be served.

About Us
AL DÍA News Media is a dynamic news organization based in Philadelphia, with an increasingly national scope and reach. Our multi-platform news media organization showcases the fullness of the Latino experience in the United States — fostering engagement and driving a new American narrative.
AL DÍA empowers Latinos to write their own story and is the only news media organization that defines the Latino experience proactively. AL DÍA offers readers a unique perspective in the midst of the cluttered media landscape with its national news website available in English and Spanish, a newspaper, English-language events including media panels, political conversations, film screenings, and other ambitious content initiatives.
The content provided by AL DÍA across platforms actively impacts the lives of those who read it. Latinos find themselves fully represented; businesses learn about the fastest growing demographic in the country; and non-Latinos are engaged by content that doesn’t simply expand their cultural landscape but provides thoughtful and incisive attention to what’s happening throughout the nation. Other news media organizations may provide a means of communication between readers and advertisers, but AL DÍA creates an empowering and insightful partnership between the parties. AL DÍA blurs cultural lines to form one community. AL DÍA welcomes you to this community.
AL DÍA News Media’s print product is nationally award winning and has a 96% market penetration.
In 2014, the company relaunched its website with a focus on national content generation.
